MWGF Scholars Program

The Marta Washington Gore Scholars Program is a virtual, one-year initiative designed to empower high school seniors from historically underrepresented backgrounds who are navigating behavioral health or learning challenges. This program provides high school seniors with both financial support and tailored mentorship to ensure a successful transition into college. Grounded in the values of resilience, equity, and community, the program equips students with practical tools, guidance, and a nurturing support system to thrive academically, personally, and professionally.

Program Pillars

  • Access: Guidance on academic accommodations and mental health resources

  • Belonging: Community building and navigating college life

  • Growth: Goal-setting, personal development, and self-advocacy

  • Leadership: Career exploration, resume building, and community service

 

Program Components 

  • $2,000 college scholarship (split between Fall/Spring semesters)

  • One-year virtual mentorship with monthly check-ins

  • Bi-monthly interactive workshops on mental health, academic success, and professional growth

  • Personalized mentor match based on professional interests and goals

  • Capstone project and community service project

 

Applicants Encouraged to Apply

  • High school seniors (graduating the year of application)

  • Accepted to a community college or university

Although we accept applicants from all backgrounds regardless of race and ethnicity​, we strongly encourage applicants who identify with the following to also apply. 

  • From historically underrepresented racial groups

  • Navigating behavioral health challenges or learning disabilities (e.g., IEP, 504 Plan, or college disability services)

  • Demonstrating financial need, a passion for service​, and self-starter

 

Key Dates​ (2026-2027 Application Cycle)

  • December 5th: Application opens

  • February 9th 11:59 EST: Applications closes

  • April-May: Applicants notified

  • Beginning of July: Program Orientation & Mentor Match

  • May: Capstone presentation & graduation
